Did you know you could gain real-world experience without leaving campus? Campus jobs are not only convenient, they are flexible and fun– designed to help you put academics first. In fact, studies have shown that students who work on campus are likely to have higher GPAs than their non-working counterparts. As you are job-hunting, lookfor jobs that are inyour area of academic interest, but all of the job types below can give you experience to add to your resume.

The 5 Types of Student Jobs
In this type of internship, you’ll pay tuition just as you would for any class, but you’ll earn academic credit through a combination of internship work hours and written assignments by your faculty advisor.Learn more about securing an internship.
With this type of internship you won’t pay tuition or earn academic credit, and you’ll generally work fewer hours per week than with a for-credit internship. These positions must meet federally approved criteria related to a specificcareer interest.
FWS positions are on-campus jobs funded partially by the federal government. Youreligibility is determined by information provided on the FAFSA and indicated in your financial aid award package. Inthese positions, you may work up to 20 hours per week. Past FWS positions have been with, thePhilip Weltnerlibrary, and academic departments. Check your financial aid award and contact Enrollment Services in the HUB (garden level of Lupton Hall) for more information.
*ϳԹ alsohas a partnership with the Centers for Disease and Control (CDC) in Atlanta for ϳԹ students who are work study eligible and interested in working for the CDC.
Some departments on campus pay students to work in their office part-time. Opportunities change each semester, but in past years, ϳԹ students have worked for, the, Marketing and Communications, the Office of Development, and Office of Admission.
These positions are often within walking distance of campus, making them convenient for ϳԹ students. Opportunities may include working at a business in nearbyor babysitting or tutoring for local Brookhaven residents.

- Prepare a resume, cover letter, and any other application materials listed in the job listing. See ourresume resourceswhen drafting your resume!
- Apply for the job, following instructions in the job listing.
- If the hiring manager is interested in pursuing your application, you may be called for an interview. See ourinterview tipsto help you prepare!
- The hiring manager will contact you to let you know if you’ve been selected for the job and will help you with the paperwork to “get hired”.

Professionalism and Student Evaluations
Any job you hold while you are a college student is training for your career and should be treated with the same amount of professionalism. All students working in any position will be evaluated twice per semester by their supervisor in the following categories:
Remember that every job is important to for growth and preparation for your career and keep the following recommendations in mind with any job you secure:
- Be at work when scheduled. If unable to do so, notify supervisor as soon as possible, but no later than the scheduled start time.
- Limit personal calls and text messages. Remember that the office assigned must conduct business.
- Accessing personal e-mail and surfing the internet are not permitted without supervisor authorization.
- Ask for supervisor’s permission before doing homework.
- Dress appropriately to the position assigned.
- Youmay have access to personal or confidential information on other students or employees. Be responsible with this information.
Approach the job with a willing spirit. Realize that every experience encountered at ϳԹis a potential learning opportunity.
