All eyes were on the world’s biggest sporting event this summer, with millions of soccer fanatics watching games on TV or consuming tournament content on social media. And Jill Ursem ’27, who is currently working with the as a creative studio intern, may have contributed to some of that content.
Ursem works on the design team that supports all creative projects across the federation, including branded materials and digital graphics. Some of her responsibilities are managing creative requests, creating graphics and developing visual assets for matches, events and campaigns.Â
“Since our team supports the entire federation, there’s always something new coming across our desk,” says the communication studies major. “Every day is a little different, which is one of my favorite parts of the internship.”

Working in sports communication isn’t new to Ursem. For the past two years, she has worked with by capturing photos, writing game recaps, promoting teams on social media and more. She credits her experience working in athletics, alongside previous internships and her communication coursework, for preparing her for this internship with U.S. Soccer.Â
Ursem’s current role is helping her build a strong foundation for her future work in sports. With the hands-on experience she’s getting, creating memorable moments for fans and connecting them to their favorite athletes, she is well prepared to succeed as a sports communicator.Â
“Every graphic, sign, campaign and visual experience has a team and a strategy behind it, and it’s rewarding to contribute to that process,” says Ursem. “It’s been exciting to apply what I’ve learned about branding, visual communication and storytelling to projects that have a real impact. Every day I’m able to combine my passion for sports with creative work, and it’s made me even more excited about building a career in the industry.”
