ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø Student Ambassador

Ayah Mateen, ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø student ambassador

Hometown: Atlanta, GA

Major: Communications with a media track, double minoring in Music and Film & Media Studies.

Campus Involvement:
Besides working as a student ambassador, I serve as the president of the Muslim Student Association and as a Sophomore Senator in Student Government.

What do I love about being an ambassador?
I love meeting prospective students and helping them see that college isn’t as intimidating as it might seem.

My favorite off-campus activity:
I love escape rooms, they’re so fun. One time, I did one that had a bookshelf that swung open like in Nancy Drew.

A piece of advice for prospective students:
Wander everywhere. You belong everywhere on this campus, so use your free will and go explore. Visit that half-built stone colosseum in Hermance Stadium. Pop up randomly at the museum with nothing but your half-eaten fries and a smile. Play the old Hearst piano even if you don’t know how. Take a nap in the hammocks or do yoga on the lawn. Climb a tree and blow bubbles in the branches. Almost every door on campus is open to students; if one’s closed, just knock. In high school, you moved where you were told, there were hall passes, bells, and far too many questions. But here, don’t stick to only the buildings where your major takes you. No one asks where you’re going. So just go wherever you want. The campus is yours!
