Students both on the stage and behind-the-scenes in stage management will be exposed to the high-energy world of professional theatre as they help transform the Conant stage into the dystopian, steampunk-inspired world of “Urinetown.” Set in the not-so-distant future, “Urinetown” is a boisterous satirical comedy musical about greed, corruption, hope and rebellion. After a 20-year drought depletes water sources, citizens are forced to pay the corrupt “Urine Good Company” megacorporation for the right to pee. When the idealistic Bobby Strong decides he has had enough, he leads a ragtag group of rebels in a revolution to pee freely! “Urinetown†is directed by Freddie Ashley, who previously worked with OU Theatre to direct last year’s hit co-production of “Heathers: The Musical,†which called “a raucous delight full of stellar vocal performances, fantastic character choices, and some killer looks.” “To be honest, it was difficult to tell who was an ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø student and who was a professional actor on stage,” the review continued.
